Peace Out is an after school program established to teach youth the importance of civic engagement and social responsibility. Our mission is to create the next generation of leaders, doers, and philanthropists.
We believe that our youth have a unique capacity to make a difference in their community and should be empowered, rewarded and encouraged to do so.
The program is typically held twice a week for eight weeks. The first day, non-profits set up booths (like a non-profit fair) and students get to know different causes in the community. Each person chooses the cause they're most passionate about and we spend the rest of the program teaching them how to raise money and awareness. They are placed into teams and become a faux foundation, taking on positions like Executive Director, Marketing Director, Development.. etc. Then, as a group, they use our curriculum, their position outline (job description), and their creativity to develop their foundation, then plan and host a fundraiser.
After the fundraiser, students invite their non-profits to a banquet where they present giant checks of the money they raised. It’s an incredibly powerful and rewarding day!
After participating in the program:
100% of our students say they have a better understanding of what a non-profit is
100% say they will continue to give back and volunteer throughout their lifetime
Peace Out was established in 2010 as an informal project among friends to give teens the experience of philanthropic giving, while providing a safe and educational after-school outlet. What began as quite small has rapidly expanded, and now serves hundreds of teens every year, as well as dozens of area non-profits.
